Constitution 2010
(Adopted by the Memebership of FBC Riesel in a Called Business Meeting, July 11, 2010)

Preamble
We declare and establish this constitution to preserve and secure the principles of our Christian faith, and to govern the body in an orderly manner. This constitution will preserve the liberties of each individual church member and the freedom of action of this body in its relation to other churches, association, conventions, and entities.

Article I – Name
This body shall be known as the First Baptist Church of Riesel, located in Riesel Texas.

Article II – Objectives

We desire to exalt Jesus Christ as the Son of God and the Savior of all who believe in Him. We pledge to:

• be a spiritual body empowered by the Holy Spirit to share Christ with as many people as possible in our church, community, and throughout the world.

• be a worshipping fellowship, experiencing an awareness of God, recognizing His person, and responding in obedience to His leadership.

• experience an increasingly meaningful fellowship with God personally and with fellow believers.

• be a church which ministers unselfishly to persons in the community and the world in Jesus’ name.

• be a church whose purpose is to be Christ-like in our daily living by emphasizing total commitment of life, personality, and possessions to the lordship of Christ.

Article III – Statement of Faith

We affirm the Holy Bible as the inspired word of God and the basis for our beliefs, teaching, and practice.

We voluntarily band ourselves together as a body of baptized believers in Jesus Christ, personally committed to sharing the Good News of salvation to lost persons. The ordinances of the church are believer’s baptism and the Lord’s Supper.

Article IV – Relationships
The government of this church is vested in the body of believers who compose it. All internal groups created and empowered by the church shall report to and be accountable only to the church, unless otherwise specified by church action.

This church is subject to the control of no other ecclesiastical body, but it recognizes and sustains the obligations of mutual counsel and cooperation which are common among Baptist churches. Insofar as is practical, this church will cooperate with and support the association, the state convention, the Baptist General Convention of Texas, and the Southern Baptist Convention.

So far as may be consistent with the principles and teachings of Scripture, this church shall have representation in the denominational causes sponsored by the SBC, BGCT, and the Waco Baptist Regional Network.

Article V – Church Covenant

Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, and on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, we do now, in the presence of God, and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another as one body in Christ.

We commit, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to:
• walk together in Christian love;
• strive for the advancement of this church in knowledge, holiness and peace;
• promote its prosperity and spirituality;
• sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines; and
• contribute cheerfully and regularly with tithes and offerings to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the Gospel through all nations.

We also commit to:
• maintain family and personal devotions, educate our children in Christian principles, seek the salvation of our family and acquaintances,
• be exemplary in our deportment,
• be just in our dealings,
• be faithful in our commitments,
• avoid all tattling, backbiting, and excessive anger, and
• be Christ-like in our conduct.

We further agree to:
• watch over one another in love;
• remember each other in prayer;
• aid each other in sickness and in distress;
• cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling;
• be courteous in speech; and
• be slow to take offense, always ready for reconciliation, following the admonition of our Savior to secure it without delay.

Moreover, we promise that when we move from this place we will, as soon as possible, unite with another church, where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s Word.

Article V – Regulations
This Constitution repeals and supersedes all former Constitutions of the First Baptist Church of Riesel, located at Riesel, Texas.

In order to carry out and make effective the principles and declarations contained in this Constitution as set forth and contained in the aforementioned Church Covenant, this church enacts and ordains the following By-Laws.
